Every week, the chapel gets a cleaning (whether it needs it or not, and it needs it). The announcements in Friday chapel always include something to the effect of "members from the Diocese of Kigezi are informed that they will be cleaning the chapel on Saturday at 8:00. Please keep time."
I'm the only person from my diocese here, so I was wondering if/when I'd have a chance to serve. Indeed I did today; it was the residents of the Honours College who had the honor of cleaning today.
How does one clean a carpet without a vacuum cleaner? By scrubbing... you use the broom with the short, stiff bristles and have at it. Actually it's best to do another job, and get out of the way while other people attack it, because it kicks up a mountain of dust. Man, I was wanting my Dyson. But many hands make short work, and we were done in about an hour - scrubbing the carpet, sweeping the non-carpet floors, dusting all the pews, washing off the kneeler cushions, and returning everything.
Then we attended a lecture on ecumenicism and its impact on church ministry. Then I took a happy nap, and am trying to distill the leadership successes and failures of the kings of Israel for my discussion group. Next up: the history of ordination.
Nice night!
